My favorite show from 2020 was “Normal People.” There was something magical to me about the cinematography, the coloration, the framing, the small movements of the characters that made me want to create new images and simply feel.
One of my friends came to the beach with his bike, and once I saw it, I immediately knew it was what I needed for my “Normal People” inspired shoot. I instantly fell in love with the muted sage green and the bike frame. Talk about a vibe. So, we planned a shoot in the only semi-European setting I could think of in San Diego: Balboa Park.
From geeking out about lighting and running around chasing Baxter on the bike to sitting down on steps, people watching, and letting him enjoy a drink, I felt very affirmed in my ability to relax, take a step back, enjoy the moment, and capture little storylines with a friend.
I hope you enjoy our shoot and am curious to see if anyone can remember the scene that inspired Baxter’s “Connell Waldron” outfit!
